Many professionals assume low productivity comes from laziness. The truth is it often comes from something rarely more info discussed: hidden resistance. This is the silent force slows momentum without announcing itself. This explains why many smart people feel stuck even while putting in effort.
Picture a normal day. You start with real momentum. Then an email lands. Momentum gets interrupted. A meeting gets added. A quick question turns into an unexpected delay. Finally, measure output differently. Instead of celebrating busyness, track meaningful progress. Did you finish something important? Did you move a core project forward? Did you create leverage? These are stronger metrics than inbox speed or meeting volume.
There is a tradeoff worth acknowledging. Protecting attention can make you seem less available. Some people may dislike delayed replies or firmer boundaries. But over time, boundaries often create more value for everyone when they allow stronger decisions.
